John Forney, CFA
Chief Executive Officer, President & Director
John Forney has served as our President and Chief Executive Officer and as a Director since July 2020.
He joins the company with 20 years of experience advising and leading catastrophe insurance entities, most recently from his eight years as President and CEO of UPC Insurance.
Mr. Forney received a B.A. in Economics from Princeton University and an M.B.A. in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a former U.S. Army Infantry officer and a graduate of Ranger School. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Brian Sheekey
Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President
Brian Sheekey has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since March, 2006.
Mr. Sheekey has over two decades of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining GeoVera, Mr. Sheekey was Chief Financial Officer of Tower Hill Insurance Group, Inc. a Florida-based homeowners insurer from 1998 to March 2006.
Mr. Sheekey specializes in areas of reinsurance, personal lines insurance, and surplus lines insurance in catastrophe-exposed markets. Mr. Sheekey received a B.S. in Accounting from St. John’s University.
Nesrin Basoz, PhD
Chief Underwriting Officer
Ms Basoz is the Chief Underwriting Officer of GeoVera. She joined GeoVera in 2001 and was the SVP, UW/Analytics from 2008 to 2016.
She has nearly 25 years of experience in product development, applying data and business analytics to underwriting, catastrophe risk and portfolio management.
Ms. Basoz received her PhD in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, specializing in earthquake engineering and risk management. She holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M.S. in Structural Engineering from METU Ankara, Turkey.
