Central California earthquake
Central California earthquake details from USGS

A magnitude-4.0 earthquake struck 15 miles northeast of Soledad, California, on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 6:36 AM Pacific Time.

The quake struck near Pinnacles National Park and was originally registered as a 4.2 magnitude but was later downgraded to a 4.0 magnitude.

Residents in the Monterey Peninsula, the Salinas Valley and San Benito County reported shaking felt in the area.

Some residents reported being awoken by shaking, rattling, and vibrating.

The ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System was activated for this event, although the quake was not large enough to trigger phone alerts. ShakeAlert provides residents enough time to Drop, Cover & Hold, which can save your life in an earthquake!

Did you know that your homeowners insurance policy does not provide coverage for earthquake damage?

If you own a home in California, consider how an earthquake can wipe out all of your hard-earned equity in an instant. In fact, California has the highest amount of property damage losses due to earthquakes in the United States.

According to the California Department of Conservation, California generally gets two or three earthquakes per year large enough to cause damage to structures (magnitude 5.5 and higher).

If you experience a total loss in an earthquake, can you afford to rebuild, replace your belongings, find another place to live, and pay off your existing loans?

GeoVera’s stand alone residential earthquake insurance will cover your dwelling, other structures, your contents, personal liability, loss of use and more.
