A series of Earthquakes strike Northern California

3.5 Earthquake Strike Northern California
Northern California

Pacifica, California, homeowners are shaken after multiple earthquakes, magnitude-3.5 and magnitude-2.6, struck NorCal.

On Tuesday morning, residents of northern California were jolted by a series of small earthquakes. The first earthquake, which measured magnitude-3.5 on the Richter scale, struck at 6:01 a.m. local time near Pacifica, followed by two aftershocks measuring magnitude-2.6 at 6:03 and 6:04 a.m. local time. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the earthquakes, and according to CBS San Francisco, residents from Santa Cruz to San Francisco felt the tremors.

While there were no reports of damage or injuries, the earthquakes occurred amidst strong winds and heavy showers that have been affecting the Bay Area. In recent weeks, California has also been experiencing heavy snow and strong rain.

Residents in the affected areas reported feeling the earthquakes, with one person from Burlingame recounting their experience. Kevin Lucett was sitting in his office chair when he felt two jolts. The first one was the largest and moved him forward and backward, followed by a second aftershock that jolted him side to side. Although he was about 20 minutes outside of Pacifica, he still felt the tremors clearly.

While small earthquakes like these are not uncommon in California, it is a reminder for residents to be prepared for any emergency situation. It’s essential to have an emergency kit ready, know the evacuation routes in your area, and have a communication plan with your loved ones. As we continue to experience extreme weather conditions, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
