California Earthquake Alert
California earthquake details from USGS

A magnitude-4.8 earthquake struck about 5 miles SE of Deep Springs, California, near the Nevada border, on January 5, 2022 at 4:28 PM Monday, Pacific Time.

Residents in wide-spread areas of California felt shaking, with the strongest shaking felt in Fresno, Merced, and Visalia. Residents as far as Bakersfield, and even in San Jose reported weak shaking.

The ShakeAlert system was activated for this earthquake event. The ShakeAlert system provides early warning to California residents when an earthquake occurs that has potential to cause injury or damage. This alert provides residents with enough time to drop, cover and hold, and to move away from glass or other dangerous objects. With this ShakeAlert, Visalia residents had approximately 34-second warning before shaking was felt in the area.

Did you know that your homeowners insurance policy does not provide coverage for earthquake damage? If you own a home in California, consider how an earthquake can wipe out all of your hard-earned equity.

Homeowners in this area are eligible for GeoVera’s Flexible Limit Stand Alone Earthquake Insurance with custom coverage limits and a broad range of deductibles, from 2.5% to 25%.
